Ameritage is a wine of fancy, a wine that blends different grapes to create a collage of flavors and textures that are more than each grape could produce on its own.
Each vintage of Ameritage is a new journey for winemaker Gino Razzi, as each vintage presents different qualities to be understood and expressed in the finished wine.
The 2004 Ameritage is a blend of many grapes – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Carmine, Sangiovese, Nebiolo… The only qualification to be part of this blend is that the grapes are the very best, and that, each in their part, contribute a quality to the completed assemblage.
Rested for 2 years in 100% new French oak barriques, this wine is deep ruby in color with a core that is nearly black. Dense and powerful, it avoids overwhelming the palate with its fruit sensations of sour cherry and blueberry as its dark and vinous texture complements these fruit aromas and flavors. Soft, well nuanced tannins provide structure and a counterbalance to the long and persistent finish.
This wine is a great counterbalance to many dishes, but is perhaps best sipped after a meal for long hours of conversation and contemplation.
This wine can to be enjoyed now, but it will evolve with another 12-15 years in the bottle.
